Being one of Cornwall’s biggest towns means we have a lot to offer, whether you live nearby or are on holiday. We are very easy to get to on the main train line from London, by car, coach, or even by plane with Newquay Airport being so close by. Home to the famous St Austell Brewery, we also boast the Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan, as well as many fantastic independent local businesses.
Cornwall’s China clay industry lies here in the heart of St Austell, and you can see this for yourself as you marvel at the towering clay pits that surround us. The rich history of China clay mining can be discovered at Cornwall’s only China clay works, based here in St Austell at Wheal Martyn Museum. Close by are the old fishing ports of Fowey and Mevagissey, as well as St Austell’s Georgian port Charlestown, which has been the setting for many films and TV series including the popular Poldark.
